Perez, 39, oversaw gang activity including, but not limited to, murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, home invasion burglary, federal drug trafficking crimes, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and burning, cutting, and permanently disabling and disfiguring numerous victims.
Perez was charged along with 13 other co-defendants including: Jesus Ravelo, Rafael Rodriguez, Frederic Salizan, Vic Melendez, Luis Gelpi, Kevin Sullivan, Jose Garcia, Ricky Montesino, Rene Ramirez, Derrick Hester, Jose Santana, Emilio Rosa, and David Rodriguez.
The arrests in 2010 resulted from a four-year investigation by the Orlando Office of the Drug Enforcement Administration HIDTA Task Force with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Melbourne Police Department.
Perez was convicted by an Orange County jury of one count of racketeering, one count of conspiracy to commit racketeering, and one count of directing the activities of a criminal gang, all first-degree felonies. Perez’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 25. All co-defendants' cases have been resolved.
